Music lessons

What I teach. Piano and guitar first and foremost, plus songwriting, theory, and musicianship — the whole craft of making and understanding music, not just putting your fingers in the right places.  I also venture (gleefully) into drums and bass.  

Who it's for.  Ages 6+, all levels- from the kid who's never touched a piano through serious teenagers and adults who want to write, arrange, and understand why the music does what it does.   I can lead a beginner through the Faber books with some simple ear training, or I can work an older student through the more difficult passages of a Beethoven Sonata; I can teach a novice how to tune a guitar, or I can show you how to weave a modal tapestry guitar solo over modulating prog rock passages.

What a lesson looks like.  30 / 45 / 60 min lessons, once a week. We start where your student actually is and build from there.  Typically we will do some ear training for warm-up, talk through a piece we're working on, dig into the deeper theory, then listen to some music and apply what we know.  Of course, lessons are highly adaptable to the needs and goals of each student.  Books and materials are provided.

Rates.  Effective 8/1/26 Rates are $40 per half hour and prorated from there, including a $15 driving fee for in-home visits.  Lessons are booked per month with payment due in full at the end of each month for the next.  Breaks follow the Wake Country Public School calendar.  New students pay a one-time registration fee of $75.
